Vibration sensor test setup

Test setup for vibration sensors.

The goal for our part of this project is to research the vibrations coming from construction sites and replicate them in a test setup where the user can set different vibrational modes. The test setup provides a controlled method for testing vibration sensors.

Project description

Construction, blasting and mining operations are among some of the main producers of seismic vibrations in the earth. These vibrations can have a negative impact on the longevity of buildings in their surroundings. This report is part of a larger research project that investigates the long-term effects of these vibrations on buildings. As part of this research project one of the goals is to develop a modular Internet of things (IoT) sensor. This sensor will be the size of a button which can measure multi-axis vibrations and transmit this to a central processing unit. Together with the data of other such sensor can create a model of the vibrational energy spectrum in the structure. In order to develop this sensor a test setup that can simulate these vibrations is required. The project group investigated various ways to produce such vibrations in a controlled environment and designed a rudimentary prototype of a test setup.

Project result

In summary, the vibration test setup has been successfully developed, providing a reliable and accurate method for replicating construction site vibrations. This setup will play a crucial role in the ongoing development and calibration of new vibration sensors, ultimately aiding in better monitoring and mitigation of construction-related structural damage.
